Dahlias…the crowning glory in my garden every summer. You have to put a bit of work in but truly they pay you back in shedloads. I grow dahlias in all colours from white through to deep red but my favourites are the dinner plate sized flowers like ‘Apricot Star’ & ‘Cafe au Lait’. I have so many blooms I have to give them away to neighbours & there’s always a posy to pick for friends & family when visiting.
This workshop will teach you how to revive the tubers from their winter dormancy, plant them up in pots & then how to plant them in the ground. I’ll give you tips on staking (so important), feeding, & deadheading. Followed by how to store them again for the winter. Once we covered the learning bits, you’ll be hands-on, potting up your own tubers to take home all labeled ready to plant out in a few weeks.
Dahlias really are the queens in a summer flower border-mine continue to bloom right up until November. You’ll finish the workshop with five different large varieties of dahlias & the knowledge of how to keep them going for the months ahead. This workshop is suitable for new gardeners and those with some gardening knowledge who’d like to specialise. It takes place at Apple Tree Cottage, 3 Nursery Terrace, Potten End, Berkhamsted, Herts HP4 2QU. Refreshments provided.
