Please keep your eyes peeled this Bonfire Night for sleeping hedgehogs!
For hedgehogs, your lovely wood pile prepared (or not) for Bonfire Night will be their idea of a 5* hotel, therefore its critical to check what lies beneath, before lighting. In the past 10 years, hedgehog numbers have declined by 25%, greater in some areas.
The British Hedgehog Preservation Society have produced this special poster, telling you what to do… ideally move the entire wood pile before you light your bonfire. If this is not possible, carefully lift the wood from the base of the pile, using broom handles and, whilst shining your torches, look and listen for any signs of movement.
